Traveling is all about exploring new places, enjoying new experiences, and making unforgettable memories. But nothing can ruin a trip faster than not being prepared. Whether heading out for a weekend getaway or embarking on a month-long adventure, having the right essentials can make all the difference. Here are seven must-haves that should always be on your packing list!

Versatile travel clothing for packing smart during your next trip

I love using Expedia because it's convenient and affordable, and you can earn points to travel. I use it for all my travel needs; hotels, auto, and airfare

1. A Reliable Travel Backpack

A high-quality travel backpack is a game-changer. Look for one that’s durable, water-resistant, and has enough compartments to organize your belongings. Comfort is key—ensure it has padded shoulder straps and a breathable back panel. Your backpack should be stylish and functional, ready for anything from city strolls to rugged hikes. Whenever we travel we all take a carry-on, a backpack [in case our luggage gets lost, we always have an extra set of clothing with us and essentials], but they come in handy especially if you take hikes, long walks, or go to the beach.

2. Portable Charger and Universal Adapter

We rely heavily on our gadgets, whether it's for snapping photos, navigating unfamiliar streets, or staying connected. Must-have travel gadgets for adventures such as portable charger ensures your devices stay powered up on the go. Don’t forget a universal adapter, especially if you’re traveling internationally—it’s a lifesaver when local outlets aren’t compatible with your plugs, a camera, or go-pro. We learned the hard way on our first trip to Mexico thinking "all chargers" would work with our phones, boy were we wrong, we purchased 3 different ones until we found the right one for our phones and even then they did not work properly. Also, GoPro is great for underwater filming, but make sure you put the underwater protector because they aren't really "waterproof" Our GoPro broke while filming underwater in Mexico!

3. Versatile Travel Clothing

Packing smart is crucial for any trip. Opt for clothing that’s lightweight, wrinkle-resistant, and can be mixed and matched easily. Quick-drying fabrics are perfect for travel, especially if laundry facilities are limited. Include a travel-friendly jacket that’s both stylish and functional for unpredictable weather. This is a must! Be prepared especially when traveling internationally because you don't know how quickly the weather can change. There's been a few times while in Mexico and Maui where the weather was hot, sunny, and beautiful to rainy and cold, so always be prepared with an extra set of clothes.

4. Travel-Friendly Toiletry Kit

Keep your essentials organized with a compact toiletry kit. Look for one with multiple compartments, making it easy to access everything from your toothbrush to skincare products. Travel-sized bottles and leak-proof containers are a must, and don’t forget to bring solid alternatives like shampoo bars to save space and avoid spills. If you plan on taking big shampoo or lotion bottles make sure you check them in otherwise TSA will confiscate and make you dispose of them.

5. First Aid Kit and Travel Insurance

Adventure comes with its risks, so it’s best to be prepared. A small first aid kit with bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and any personal medications should be on hand. Additionally, travel insurance offers peace of mind in case of emergencies, covering everything from medical expenses to trip cancellations. I always purchase Mexican auto insurance when I drive into Mexico some insurance companies will cover up to 10 miles from the border, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Also travel insurance will cover you in case of an accident while traveling internationally.

6. Packing Cubes and Travel Essentials

Organization can be a lifesaver when you’re on the road. Packing cubes help you categorize and compress your clothing and accessories, maximizing space in your luggage. They also make unpacking a breeze since you won’t have to dig through a jumbled mess to find what you need. Don't forget the waterproof phone pouch [they came in handy when my GoPro broke, I was still able to record under water and enjoy my travel]. Finally, the New Pillow is a must especially if you don't fly "first class" you always want to be comfortable during long flights and they also work great during overlays or delays at the airport.

7. Reusable Water Bottles and Snacks

Staying hydrated while traveling is essential. A reusable water bottle not only reduces plastic waste but also saves money. I've been using the Saychelle water filtration at home and it's delicious alkaline water this water bottle is also amazing especially when you travel internationally. So make sure to look for one with a built-in filter for when you’re unsure about the water quality. Also, bring along some non-perishable snacks like trail mix or granola bars to keep your energy levels up during long journeys or unexpected delays.
